There is one thing that all Muleteer HQ inhabitants share..... a love of food!
Imagine my despair when I looked over the fence and saw what those naughty puppyteers were up to! They had spied the juicy blackcurrants all ready for picking...
FH had picked a lovely box full of blackcurrants and that naughty puppy was trying to help himself! Well FH spied him and soon put a stop to it.....
Blackcurrants are not suitable food for dogs.... they are much more appropriate for herbivores.... like Mini Mules!
Hmmmm try telling that to the Pocket Sized Labrador.
The PSL has had many years of perfecting his fruit picking technique, he is a successful picker of apples, blackcurrants, blackberries and well anything that he views as edible (which is most things, he is a Labrador after all). He dived right in to the blackcurrant bush once FH had picked what she wanted..... a few unripe berries or slightly squishy ones? Delightful if you're the PSL!

And then..... can you believe it? He decided to teach the puppy the skills too, apparently it's important to pass on these techniques to the next generation of fruit picking connoisseurs. Hmmmmm me thinks that PSL might regret this, Milo can reach rather higher than he can these days!
The blackcurrant bush provided plenty for all, nearly two kilos for the humans, scraps for the dogs (and entertainment!) and I even got to taste some berries too, mmmm :-)
I was not to be outdone by those pups though, anything they can do I can do better!
Attention FH this berry picker is ready for action, let us go searching!
I spy with my little eye something beginning with 'S'
Look! Some wild strawberries, these are my favourite! They're all hidden away in the hedgerow like perfect little jewels. Much smaller than the ones you humans normally eat but so much tastier, all in a tiny package, they say good things come in small packages..... I'm sure they're right ;-)
They're a little hard to get to.... could you oblige please FH? Yummy!
What's that I see? Surely humans don't like strawberries too? I'm sure they're not good for you.... only good for mini mules in need of extra condition (stop giggling FH).
Only one thing for it. I'm going in. Berry picking lips at the ready, time for 'Pick Your Own'.
Do you know, I think strawberries may be my new favourite thing.... mmmm, maybe I could find a full time fruit picking job, I'd be very dedicated!
Have a Berry Nice Weekend All!
Mmmmmm yum. I've not seen wild strawberries in years. Soon be blackberry time. Human especially likes it if I eat blackberries then give her a kiss. She makes that lovely squealing noise that humans do when they are having fun.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for blackberries to appear, we love eating them in this house. Humans, dogs, cats, ponies and mules.... the only one yet to be convinced is Diesel..... maybe this year is the year of the blackberry eating cat?!
DeleteMmm thank you for sharing those yummy moments I bet if we had berries we wouldn't have eaten the tops off the Zinneas yesterday. Oh our mums was not pleased. I doubt she will let us out in the lower garden till after frost time now, well we still have the other turn outs. Hopefully one day mums will treat us with berries !
ReplyDeleteNeighboring neighs from across the pond,
Tink and Honey Bee ~ small mares extrondinares
Oooops, oh no! You naughty (but very fine ;-) ponies, eating the prize zinneas is a little naughty..... maybe you could explain to her that berries would prevent flower damage, this approach could be a winner?!
DeleteTo my little extraordi-mares - snuffles, whinnies and nuzzle - Yours, Roller xxxx
Oh those berries look yummy. Do hope the pup hasn't got a sore tummy after getting stuck in! :)
ReplyDeleteHoping to get some jam from them! I caught him just in time so few eaten, I can tell he's been brought up by a labrador, his palate is not discerning and his tummy has an iron constitution - good job with the mischief they get up to!
DeleteBlackcurrants look like blueberries. Are they the same? I have never had a blackcurrant. What fun for everyone to eat the fruit :) Shy would love that!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderfully berry good weekend
They are different but similar, little more bitter and normally made in to jam. They are tasty but best with lots of sugar and not too many at once.... I tried telling the dogs that, they reckon they're fine in abundance with a dressing of puppy slobber - yuck!
DeleteThose berries look wonderful. Everyone looks happy, too!
ReplyDeleteSuch fun, amazing how a few small berries can keep the gang entertained!
DeleteOh what a wonderful uplifting post. Morris my Jack Russel is very good at berry picking and wild strawberry searching.
ReplyDeleteOur mules get me to the most luscious patches that cannot be gotten to by most other means.
We love berry picking and have been inspired by your adventures! Blackberry time will be with us soon so Dragon and I will have to take ourselves off on some berry adventures, it's the favoured jam in this house so lots of pressure to make enough for the year..... and of course we don't enjoy the rides to collect the berries at all ;-)
DeleteAh, my dear Mini, what a tasty adventure --a bountiful of superfruit!. Everything looks delicious, there is nothing better that picking your own fruit. I wonder if those shrubs are as thorny as the wild blackberries here. We went once to a farm to pick raspberries, the basketful did not last long!. Those puppyteers are mischievous par excellence, good they did not get tummyache.
ReplyDeleteSay hello to Roller darling, his Friday wisdom was much missed. Looking forward to Callie's fruit picking --she'll return wearing strawberry pink lipstick ;-)
Cuddles to all, hopefully received during a sunny Sunday siesta.
Dearest Carmen, we are so pleased you like our tasty, fruitful adventures! We had such fun, I did even take some berries home for the others (this was so hard as I really did want them for myself but I tried to be a good mini mule). Callie is ready for her blackberrying adventures which are not far off, they are ripening very soon, she is so delicate picking the fruit with soft but tough lips and very delicate teeth.
DeleteRoller will be delighted with his cuddles, his Friday thoughts were delayed as the human had deserted us along with our laptop..... thank goodness that they are now home and we can receive our comments and most importantly cuddles delivered on a sunny afternoon with butterflies, bees and birds all around. Sending you neighbrays, whinnies and miaows for a sunny Sunday :-) xxx
Oh, hooves without laptop is not good, indeed. Glad the laptop is back (along the humans, of course!). Very sunny and aflutter over here, too. I was filming the bees in my flowers while thinking of you all, mis amigos. Till next time!.
DeleteMmmmmmmmmmm, Maj says any post about food is good. He is rather partial to rose-hips when out hacking.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we love rosehips too! All food is good food :-)
DeleteI imagine those greedy pups had the squits later!
ReplyDeleteThe scary thing was.... they were absolutely fine, the iron constitution of a labrador and a labrador wannabe!
