Keep On Running.....

MH is off to run a marathon, he has been wearing lycra leggings for far too long and has been flaunting fluorescent gear for what seems like ages.  The time for him to run has come.  Us Muleteers do accept that it is harder work for those with two legs to run 26 and a bit miles but we're sure he's up to the challenge.  We do have some advice though MH:
The Standing Start
Always ensure that you are ready to get a good start, no hanging around, marks, set ----- GO!

Smile for the Camera
Always ensure that when the camera is pointing in your direction that you smile and whizz past at 100 miles per hour, blink and we'll miss you.  If you had fine locks like Roller you could toss these around to assist with the image!

Lean in to the corners
Don't underestimate the power of the lurcher lean....go for the inside line, this could shave seconds off your time!

Constant Speed
Use the least effort to get to your destination fastest.  Dragon is the queen of this, don't drag your heels but keep your pace constant, our drama queen does not dilly dally and goes the same speed in the last mile as in the first.

Snack on the way
The Mini would like to remind you that there is no harm in snacking on the hoof.  A little pick me up may be just the ticket at mile number 16!

Enjoy Yourself
Run like the Pocket Sized Labrador - with a smile and joy!  Feels good hey?

A Cold Splash
When in need of refreshment Dragon can recommend a good splash in some ice cold water!

A Good Roll
When you're finished and need to relax, may we advise a good roll in the mud?  FH says this is not allowed for humans, well what's stopping you?!

A Good Snooze
Finally when the times are in, the legs are tired and FH has worn her hands out clapping it must be time for a good snooze.....

When you run the marathon, you run against the distance, not against the other runners and not against the time.

    1. Thanks Jo, he did it! My muley coaching worked perfectly, he paced it well although I'm sure being superior in the ear department I would have passed the finish line quicker ;-) C xx

  5. Wow! Badger and I did a couple of Endurance Rides in 2006 & 2007. He was very proud to be the only mule amongst many many Arabs and other fine equine.
It takes a lot of training.

The rolling in the mud though is most important of all things.

    1. Wow, we bet Badger was the finest equine specimen Endurance had ever seen :-) MH actually came home with muddy shoes so we think he may have been rolling on our instruction, he looks like he needs a therapeutic roll and lie down now!!

  6. Oh this post is just too cute, too cute I say. And best of luck to the two legged runner in the marathon. ~ May the wind be at your back and the asphalt stay out of your face ;) Have a fun race.

    1. Thanks Willow! He raced the wind and stayed away from the asphalt - phew! Tired but happy and guess what the dogs will still want their long walk from him in the morning!!

  7. Good luck to you, MH!. No wonder that in thinking strategy as a mule, riding the winds like a Sighthound, bringing the enthusiasm of a Labrador, smiling like a pony and flexing your muscles as a cat ... the victory is yours!. A final mud roll is a must!. Cheering from across the pond :-)

    2. The cheering worked!! He finished well with the endurance of the mule interspersed with the speed of the sight hound, our coaching of this human has paid off. We think Murph deserves to share the medal as he was number one training partner :-)
We'll cheer on your friend, London is a brilliant marathon, he will love it :-)
