Roller's Philosophical Friday: Destinations

It's raining, it's pouring, The Mini is snoring, Dragon looked outside and wouldn't get up in the morning.....

Yep, here it comes again, raindrops keep falling on my head and the fields are back to a boggy, muddy mess again.  I am hiding inside and trying to keep the mules' spirits up.  We had a glimpse of Spring and a taste of green, green grass in our spring paddock only to have it snatched away again.  There is no way we're venturing out in this weather, I may be able to cope but those mules are fairweather folks.

Ever wondered why just when things are going great, the sun is shining, you're looking forward to new horizons and good times ahead and then BAM!  Someone puts a bump in the road, a curve in the straight, a problem where there wasn't one, rain where there should be sunshine? Yep I think about these things all the time...... I have a lot of philosophising time whilst eating, the perfect combination ;-)

I am ever the optimist though, the sun will arrive again, the mountains will be climbed and Summer is just around the corner.

So here's the thought for today, thanks to a friend who knew just the right thing to say to brighten my day!

Don't confuse your path with your destination.  Just because it's stormy now doesn't mean that you aren't headed for sunshine!

  1. Great quote!! While we are not hit with rain, we have the flurries and the cold weather. This is no spring! But warm days are ahead. The grass will come up and horses and mules everywhere will rejoice!

  2. My dearest Roller, what a miserable weather, it must be so boring to remain indoors till it clears. I hope that the pasture comes back greener and tastier.

On the bright side, this gives ample room for philosophical munching, rainy-day games as who counts the more raindrops and an endless palette for mud art when the sun shines back again!.

Cannot send you sunshine from here as we just had another very big "spring" snowstorm ...

    Love to you all.

    1. The weather really does seem very strange at the moment! Spring will return of this we are sure, Mother Nature is just reminding us of her power :-) Our mud art is going well, Dragon is winning the artistic talent contest as she has managed to plaster every inch of herself in different hues of muddy paint, I think she looks gorgeous!

Snuffles to you dear friend xxx

  4. I agree with you, Roller. The weather is depressing but it's important to be positive. I hope that you all stay warm and dry.
Do you ever catch a cold? Sorry if that is a stupid question but I am not sure if ponies/mules/horses/donkeys catch colds. I hope not!

    1. We are all lovely and warm and dry when we want to be. Today FH has let us out in the paddock with access back to our stables if we want, at the moment we are all joyfully coating ourselves in mud and nibbling what little grass is left. When the rain starts again we'll be heading for shelter and hay nets!

We can catch colds but we're very lucky that we never really do, FH is very careful not to bring colds and coughs back to us from the other equines she sees and we don't really have much chance to catch them any other way. Some of our equine friends in further places seem to have had lots of colds and nasty viruses this year which is not nice. Hooves crossed we will stay fit and well :-)

Snuffles, ear waves and miaows to brighten this dreary spring day xxxx

    2. Thanks Roller. Thinking about it, I sponsor a horse called William at Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk (he's a little bit bigger than you - he's a Shire!) and it was mentioned in one of his newsletters that the horses are innoculated against flu.
