Five A Day…. The Messy Way!

Nom, nom, nom, slurp, slurp, can't talk now, I've been told not to talk with my mouth full!

It appears that it's the 'tidy the fruit bowl' out day in the house, excellent, plenty of fruity goodness just for me, mini mules need their five a day too you know :-)

This fruity goodness can be a little messy though you know?  Especially when there's pears involved….. very ripe, sloppy pears…. all the better!

And for the finale?! Well you just can't beat a good banana peel.  So good it is best enjoyed with your eyes squeezed tight shut.

Wonder what's in this week's fruit bowl, mmmm maybe a tasty satsuma?

Don't worry folks I did share with the others but they were a little slow off the mark and didn't gallop at full speed downhill to investigate the offering, hmmm FH did insist on saving them some, it seems there are runner's up prizes in this house!

Have a lovely week ahead folks and remember those five a day!

Sunny Day = Smiley Dragon!

Oh Mother Nature the Dragon mule loves you!  You sent me a sunny day to give me some respite from the un-mulelike weather and I'm soooo happy!

In fact I couldn't hide my happiness by smiling wide and proud!

Ah that roll in the sunshine feels sooo good!

Oh yeah!  Even an itchy scratch of my Dragon ears :-)

There's always someone that tries to photobomb the shot though isn't there?

Hey you! I know you're making ears behind my head, trot off will you, this is my photo shoot .....

Oh for goodness sake Mini go on then have your picture taken if you really must, I'm too busy chilling anyway!

Let's hope for more nice weather for the week ahead - have a happy week everyone!

Mule Racing

Ready for Mule Racing?  Who will be the victor in today's high stakes race, winner gets a carrot!

Hmmm what's this it looks like Roller is taking an early lead…. but his ears are too short, we may have an impostor!

He's off, there's no stopping this competitor, and look he does it with style!

But wait there appears to be a problem, oh dear this runner has decided it's too much hard work, he needs a lie down…

And roll!

Looks like Dragon Mule is taking the lead… she's passed Roller on the outside narrowly missing him.

And she's in to her stride, looks like a sure winner to us.

But wait!  What's this?  It looks like there's a late push from The Mini.

He's catching, watch those little legs go!

Oh No!  Disaster!  Dragon has taken a wrong turning and has been overtaken by The Mini, a terrible mistake on the part of the Dragon Mule!

The Mini looks like he's got this one sewn up!

Nothing quite says 'nah, nah, nah, nah, nah', like the whites of your eyes ;-)

But Dragon's gaining again!

One last burst of Mini speed needed!

And he's over the finish line and coasting, he's done it!

The crowd goes wild!  The first past the post poses for photos in the winner's paddock!

But wait, what's this?  It seems that Roller has woken up and thinks the race is still on…. come back here you pesky pony!

Oh dear, he missed the whole thing, he's a little miffed, he's going for gymnastics instead ;-)

Gosh that was fun, must be time for a rest now??

You'll be glad to know we all got a carrot, only winners in this gang :-) Have a lovely weekend friends!

Fighting the Festive Spread

Now I don't mean to be rude FH but errrm well you look like you've eaten one too many chocolates over the festive period, I think you have put on a few festive pounds around the middle..... you know the bit that you are always saying wobbles on me, well now the wobble's on you!

Whilst you've had us minis on a strict fat fighters diet you seem to have neglected to take the same advice on board for yourself.  Typical human, what double standards!

We know Christmas is all about the food, and more food and friends and family but now it's nearly New Year and we need to think about getting you back in shape..... this may take a while.

So here I am ready for action, fancy a festive walk?

I heard you got new walking boots for Christmas from MH?  Yes, very nice, now let's go try them out up the lanes and on to the moor to look at the view and maybe have a wee munch on some grass (me not you!)

Up and off we go, I spy with my little eye some monster sheep in the distance. Can we please go do some herding FH, can we huh? Quicker come on, let's canter!  Honestly, keep up! What do you mean you can't go this fast? Ooops you are rather out of puff....

Just at this very moment a galloping horse came round the bend chased by a canine companion, oh and yes there was a human on board.  If only I was a little taller FH we could do that and then you wouldn't be out of puff.  The horse got a little fright when it saw us, anyone would think it's never seen a mini mule before..... come to think of it, it probably hasn't.  After the runaway horse calmed down we could go on our way.

A lovely look at the blue sky view with the sea in the distance, we've had great weather today although we've got more heavy rain and high winds coming tonight and in to next week so best make the most of it!

Alas I think it's time to take our tired feet home, don't want to overdo it too much, I can hear the others calling for us.... Dragon sounds like an asthmatic Darth Vader with her funny voice, best go save the neighbours from her rendition of 'Mini Come Back'!

Going back home is always so much easier, come on FH your extra pounds will help gravity to wobble you down the hill!

Wait though! What's this I sniff?  A careless walker has dropped their apple core right in the middle of the lane!  How very wasteful!  Well have no fear clear up Mini is here!

Nom, nom, nom, mmmm don't mind this clearing up thing at all actually; all apple cores, banana skins and orange peel welcome!

Well that was a fun little jaunt on a sunny day.  Now then FH hope you've been thinking about your New Year's resolutions?  A few less chocolates maybe? Not to mention a few more Mini walks please ;-)

Hope you all had a fabulous festive time friends!  Sorry for our lack of blogging, the human was too busy stuffing her face and celebrating to bring up the required laptop!

No doubt we'll be seeing you all soon in the New Year - Neighbrays to you!

Ever The Opportunists!

Hey Mini... come out of your stable!  I know it's all wet and windy and not very nice but every cloud has a silver lining.....

Look the wind is blowing all the leaves off of the trees right on to our yard.  And look they taste yummy!

I'm just helping with the sweeping up for FH really! She sure will appreciate it when she sees this yard is all clean and tidy and she doesn't need to get the broom out.  This is such an untidy mess, best get my Dragon jaws working out ;-)

There has to be some advantages of this miserable weather.... come on Mini out you come.

That was not quite what I had in mind.... typical man do the chores from the comfort of the armchair!

Honestly!  He wouldn't leave the comfort of his stable in case the rain made his hair go all frizzy..... alas the leaves seemed to come to him!

Visitors From Afar....

This weekend King Mini has been happily receiving guests in his kingdom!  As you all know, these days I like new humans coming to visit me, especially when they come ready with scratches, cuddles and kind words.  So imagine my delight when one of my distant fans came to visit!  FH and Donkey Dame (her blog is here: Donkey Dame Blog) have 'known' each other for a while and have happily exchanged donkey stories and news over the virtual grapevine.   They have never actually met though as Donkey Dame lives in Canada which apparently is mules miles and quite a swim away (I can't manage it with my petite legs although FH reckons I'd be quite buoyant?! Hmmm).  So when we heard that Donkey Dame and her significant other were visiting our fair (read windy and wet!) shores we pleaded with them to come visit.

FH got first dibs and showed Donkey Dame around where she works... enough long ears to satisfy any donkey addict apparently, alas not many mules to see!  So in the interests of fairness we invited our guests to Muleteer HQ, hoping they could look past the mud and slight untidiness!

Us mules are good judges of character and we liked these visitors A LOT!  The others tried to push in on the meet and greet duty... Roller snuffled a bit before going back to eating and Dragon introduced herself to the men in the party.... not long though before I persuaded them this was my party and I was definitely The Host.

So I endeared myself with lots of rest on shoulder snuffles, some reversing for bottom scratching and a little nudging.  The Donkey Dame was entirely impressed by me I could tell.... do you think she would like a mini mule to add to her herd?  Come to think of it what would FH do without me?  Hmmm maybe I could go for short holidays if I concentrate and get a pilot's license?

I duly posed for photos with my most honoured guest and FH, I know that my visitors really travelled all this way just to see me and my mulificent ears... I do not believe what FH says about these folks being on holiday and having work plans.... whatever, I know the truth!  Who wouldn't travel half way around the world to pet King Mini?!

Save The Best 'Til Last

Sunday evening had come and I had watched everyone else have their fun....

I was starting to wonder if my fly shield was making me the invisible mule?

I had tried neighbraying, I had hung around the yard a lot, I had rolled around in my most becoming fashion and had finally resorted to sulking.

When was it going to be MY turn?

Every time I asked FH she kept saying, don't worry I haven't forgotten you, wait until later.... wait until the flies have stopped buzzing and it's not quite so hot.   She promised that I would have the nicest time of all...

Dragon had gone out not once but twice.  She had not been on best behaviour on one occasion, hmmm well if you want a good mule you should look no further than my handsomeness - hint, hint!

Roller had been pampered and had a bath (I did too but that's not the point), he had also escaped like the slightly naughty pony he is.  Someone had left the fence unelectrified so he took firm advantage,  I however am perfect and would not think of doing such a thing....  see FH, pick me!

So there I was, late Sunday, everyone had been and gone, gone home for dinner, off to drink tea and eat cake.... looks like I missed my weekend fun :-(

But wait what's this?  My shield of steel has been removed and I'm all dressed up with somewhere to go!

Off we went for a lovely evening potter.  We walked to the moor gate and looked at the view, checked out the new arrival sheep and I had a spot of moorland delicacy grass.

FH said it had been a busy weekend but she couldn't let it end without the perfect walk with her perfect mini mule.  Oh yes, I like the sound of that.  FH reminisced that not too long ago I would not have been up here with her.  Apparently I would've thought this was all too exciting or scary (probably true) and tried to get loose which would not be the done thing in such a big open space.  No such problems anymore.

It's always important to sample the local delicacies when you travel.  I took this advice and snacked a while as FH sat and looked at the view.

So eventually we had to go home as it was starting to get late.  I decided to try to pick some flowers for FH.  There was a 'little' problem though.  They were very tasty.  Mmmm I really like the taste of these flowers.  Just one little taste.  Oops I guess she doesn't want my chewed flowers.  Oh well.

So there we have it.  Maybe the best things do come to those who wait?  I sure had fun.  Hope your weekend was a good one too!
